Nasty food........drive to Arlington if u want Red Lobster
DESCRIPTION: The food is nasty. The service is completely horrible. I waited over 30 minutes before I saw my server again. The management was nowhere to be seen. I guess they were hiding with my waitress. If you feel you must really eat seafood, and want Red Lobster....I would recommend driving on over to Arlington or Mesquite.....

Brownwood Visit
DESCRIPTION: Dinner was delicious. We had sliced barbeque, vegetables, potato salad and dessert. Everything tasted homemade. The manager (I think) came by to offer us fresh, hot rolls that made the meal complete. My compliments to the entire staff and owners.

I Need to Go There
DESCRIPTION: Back in the old days, the 50's and 60's, a weekend trip to the big cities of Lubbock or Amarillo would also mean a Sunday dinner at Underwoods. After I left home and moved to Dallas, it was always a treat to go to Underwoods there. Now 30 plus years later I see there is only one left. As Fats once sang "Ain't that a shame." Shore was good eatin. Got to say that my review is based on memory. Don't know how it is now but but back then it was cafeteria style and the longest line.

Texas Best Barbeque
DESCRIPTION: The barbeque beef steak is unsurpassed! I have never found any other B-B-Q restaurant that could match Underwood's. They also excel in making the best homemade hot rolls. One other thing I've found to be unmatched is their B-B-Q sauce/gravy. Yummy! wish they would bottle it and sell it in the grocery stores. If you like great barbeque, then this is the place for you.

I Want to Go away Before the Last Underwoods Goes away
DESCRIPTION: I had my first meal at Underwoods in the Summer of 1958, on North East 8th St. in Amarillo, TX. Over the years I have driven as far as I have to to have another Underwoods meal. They just don't make bbq like that anywhere else on the planet. As a matter of fact, we are driving to Brownwood next week-end for another lunch at Underwood's, from Dallas.

Best BBQ in Texas
DESCRIPTION: Best BBQ in Texas is at Underwoods in Brownwood. I used to eat the BBQ sausage and potato salad with a jalapeno, pepsi, delicious rolls with honey, and peach cobbler with whipped cream. Formerly from the Brownwood area and now living in Minneapolis, I long for good Texas BBQ. The next time I'm in Texas on a business trip I'll be sure to stop by Underwoods.

Wonderful Food for Years
DESCRIPTION: Rest rooms very cramped. Inaccessible to wheelchairs, walkers or scooters. Only two tiny units (ladies room) for such large establishment. Sometimes women take a lot longer, esp. older women. Line can extend down to the men's room. Which is embarrasing!

By Far the Best
DESCRIPTION: As a Texas Tech college student, I was first introduced to Underwoods on a football band trip to defeat Texas A&M in October, 2002. Truly, the only thing greater than a second year victory at Kyle Field was the delicious barbeque dinner at Underwoods! The Goin' Band from Raiderland may very well be one of the largest groups to dine at this wonderful cafeteria! I will venture to say that this little place is one of Texas' best kept secrets!

My Favorite of All Time
DESCRIPTION: We had about 5 Underwood's in the Ft Worth Area and I wish they were still around because there hasn't been anything around to match the taste of their barbeque. Best Barbecue Brisket and Cobblers
DESCRIPTION: I have eaten Underwoods Barbecue since about 1959 in the Fort Worth Area. I have never found better anywhere in the United States or Canada. It is a taste sensation. Underwoods Cafeteria
DESCRIPTION: Underwoods is the best of any kind of food, not just BBQ. The best fried okra, the best rolls and certainly the best cobbler (all flavors). Blueberry is my favorite. I was so excited the day Underwoods opened in Waco. Only a 2 hour drive from Dallas instead of a 3.5 hr drive to Brownwood. We were able to feast at least once a month. Then the day came when they closed the doors. Now we are back to driving to Brownwood about twice a year.

The Worlds Best B-B-Q
DESCRIPTION: I grew up in the 1950's & 1960's with Underwoods In the Lawton, Ok. area and when they closed in the 80's I thought the end of great B-B-Q was over. I moved to Dallas and a friend told me of a great B-B-Q in Waco and I had to know the name and he said Underwoods. I thought "Could it be?" So I made a special trip and sure enough it was the same wonderful B-B-Q that I remember as a child. I was upset when the Waco location closed. Thank God for the Brownwood location. I go to Brownwood 2-3 times a year and always take a cooler and bring back several pounds of B-B-Q and about a gallon of sauce as it will store in the freeze a good long time. I knew some of the Underwood boys from Wichita Falls, TX and Elgin, OK area but lost track of them over the years. I sure wish there were Underwoods Cafes all over like in the 60's and 70's. If you are ever in the Brownwood area and want to try some of the best B-B-Q in the world stop in. You will not be sorry, and don't forget to take a cooler so you can take some home with you as well. P.S. If they ever plan to close this last location please let me have the secret on how to make the wonderful B-B-Q

Underwoods Barbeque

Former Texan Misses Real BBQ

Best All Around
DESCRIPTION: There's a lot of good BBQ in Texas but nobody puts the whole thing together as well as Underwoods. The meats are fantastic and the sides are incredible. What? I can get as many sides as I want and they're all included in the low price of the entree? And that amazing cobbler? That's included, too? I guess I'll have to pay for my drink, though? No? A Huge Part of My Childhood

This Place Is Awful
DESCRIPTION: I just came from Underwoods. I had the BBQ steak dinner and it was all I could do to get through half the steak. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box and the gravy was fair. I give the green beans and cole slaw an OK. The cobbler everyone on here raves about was a thin crust with a few cherries mixed with a lot of juice. First and last time I'll ever go there.

Please Come Back
DESCRIPTION: After growing up on Underwoods' great food in the Mid-Cities area, I did not mind the drive to Waco to enjoy the great barbeque, beans, potato salad, rolls and cobbler. I now have to drive to Brownwood after Leo closed the doors in Waco. If ever there was a cafeteria that would thrive in my area, Underwoods would stay packed. I know the Underwood family wants to stay local to Brownwood, but we need you here. In the Hurst/Colleyville area alone we would keep you profitable. I think the Underwood family should consider a return to my area. There has to be some family member who would start a new one here. There are people all over here in their 40's and 50's that still talk about wanting them back. The potato salad and beans alone keep me driving all the way to Brownwood maybe twice a year. If they were local I would go weekly and that is not an exaggeration.

DESCRIPTION: I moved from Texas when I was 5 years old, but by far one of my best memories was going to Underwoods after church on Sundays. I remeber being able to smell the food before we got there.
